GROWTH: Group’s stance explained

| April 14, 2021 1:00 AM

It is time to clear up some inaccuracies that are being spread about our Responsible North Idaho Growth group. Specifically, we are not advocating STOP or NO growth. (That is hyperbole to scare people.)

Growth is going to continue; you cannot stop it. We are advocating slowing annexations until the existing undeveloped land in cities is developed. We are advocating less dense development. (Fewer dwelling units per acre.) We are advocating larger lots when prairie land is annexed into cities. We are advocating preserving green space.

The average budgets of people coming to Idaho are, according to Redfin, $738K. Slowing annexations and limiting density will not cause prices to rise any more than they are now. There are no limits now, and yet prices still rise.

The budgets of those coming are determining the prices. Most of the current residents are already priced out of the market. I am told that builders can’t find enough trades people to keep up with the need. Slowing will not “ruin the economy and put half the county out of work.” (Again, hyperbole to scare people.)

Get involved. Pay attention to what your planning commissions and city councils are annexing in and what subdivision they are approving. You can have a say and affect how your community grows, but you have to speak up and get involved.

Our group has 1,600 people, just on Facebook. If you want to get involved but do not use Facebook, please send an email with your name and as much info as you wish to provide, to get on our email list at: ResponsibleNorthIdahoGrowth@yahoo.com
