COEUR d’ALENE — A man who was released on his own recognizance in a robbery case was arrested for failing to appear in court.

Alexander J. Dillan, 24, is charged with robbery, a felony.

The charge stems from last December, when police responded to a Coeur d’Alene apartment complex where a man said he had been robbed.

The man told police he was smoking on his porch when Dillan approached him and asked for the headphones he was wearing.

When the man refused to hand them over, he said Dillan reached for his own waistband for what the man believed to be a gun. He reportedly took off the headphones and threw them to Dillan, who then walked away.

The headphones were worth about $5, according to court documents.

Police located Dillan near the apartment complex and detained him. He was wanted on a warrant for failing to appear in court in an unrelated case, police said.

Dillan acknowledged speaking with the resident at the apartment, police said.

He reportedly had a pair of headphones that matched the description of the pair that was allegedly stolen. He told police the headphones belonged to him.

Police arrested Dillan at the scene.

Judge John Cafferty ordered that Dillan be released on his own recognizance in February.

Dillan reportedly failed to appear in court in mid-March. A bench warrant was issued for his arrest and he was taken into custody on Friday.

Judge Cafferty ordered Monday that Dillan be held on $50,000 bail.
