NIC softball: Cardinals sweep CCS for second time in three days

COEUR d’ALENE — Aleksya Batoon hit a grand slam in the second inning of the opener, and the North Idaho College Cardinals went on to sweep the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch 17-9 and 17-15 in Northwest Athletic Conference softball Sunday at Memorial Field.

Taylor Fry and Kacey Davis each hit two-run homers for NIC (5-2, 5-0 NWAC), and Audrey Walker added a solo shot. Davis also hit a two-run double in the first inning.

In the second game, Hope Shimatsu’s sacrifice fly in the sixth inning broke a 15-all tie for NIC.

Taryn Vanderwiel hit a pair of two-run homers and finished with four hits for the Cardinals, who swept CCS on Friday in Spokane, and Fry hit a three-run homer.

NIC plays host to Treasure Valley Community College of Ontario, Ore., in doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday.
