PREP BASEBALL: Post Falls, Lewiston split IEL twinbill

POST FALLS — Nick Chase hit a three-run triple in the bottom of the fourth inning to ignite the Post Falls offense in a 12-2 win over the Lewiston Bengals in the first game of an Inland Empire League doubleheader on Saturday at Post Falls High.

Ethan Miller allowed two runs over five innings in the first game for Post Falls.

In the nightcap, Lewiston used an eight-run sixth inning to rally for a 13-9 win over the Trojans to earn the split.

Miller went 2 for 3 with three RBIs in the second game for Post Falls, which led 9-3 after the second inning.

Post Falls (8-4-1, 6-2 IEL) travels to Coeur d’Alene for an Inland Empire League doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.

Lewiston is 5-6, 5-2.

In the second game, Paddack scored four runs and Caden Sampsel had two hits and three RBIs for the Vikings in a nonleague win over the Hawks.

COEUR d’ALENE — Eric Bumbaugh, Marcus Manzardo and Ethan Taylor drove in three runs each for the Timberwolves in an Inland Empire League win over the Bears at Lake City High.

Nate Weatherhead struck out six over 3 ⅓ innings and AJ Currie fanned three for Lake City, which tallied 13 hits on the day.

“It was a good day for us,” Lake City coach Paul Manzardo said. “We hit the ball really well all through the lineup and both Nate and AJ (Currie) pitched really well and gave us a chance to win. It was a good day and hopefully we can continue that momentum into Tuesday’s game with Sandpoint.”

Lake City (2-7, 2-7 IEL) hosts Sandpoint on Tuesday.
