Post Falls sweeps team titles

at Kootenai County Challenge

SPIRIT LAKE — Post Falls senior Isaac Ballew won in both the 110- and 300-hurdles, and added a win in the 400 for the Trojans, who ran away with the boys team title at the fifth annual Kootenai County Challenge at Timberlake High.

Post Falls finished with 131.5 points, ahead of Lake City with 86.5.

Post Falls edged Lake City 109.5-100 for the girls team title.

“There were a lot of good marks by all the teams today,” Post Falls coach Wade Quesnell said. “We had a really good day in the sprints, distance events and a lot of PRs. Anytime you can get a couple of wins and some PRs, it’s a good day.”

Lake City senior Angelyca Chapman won in the 100, 200, 400 and 4x200 relay.

RATHDRUM — Erin Byrne, Cienna Walls and Hailey Gosch each hit home runs as the host Hawks (5-8) beat the Tigers (6-3) in the first game of a doubleheader.

In the second game, Peyton Lindley hit two of Timberlake’s five homers and drove in eight runs as the Tigers earned the split.

Byrne hit a solo homer, Walls a two-run shot for Lakeland in the third inning of the opener. Gosch delivered a three-run homer in the fourth, and finished with four RBIs. Byrne went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, Walls 3 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

In the nightcap, Lindley hit three-run homers in the first and second inning for Timberlake. Lacey Peterson and Bernie Carhart each hit two-run homers, and Emma Howard added a solo shot.

Walls and Hailey Smit each had two-run homers for Lakeland, and Kathryn Wardak added a solo homer.

Lakeland outhomered Timberlake 6-5 on the day. Byrne went 6 for 8 on the day for the Hawks.

Lakeland travels to Moscow on Tuesday for an Inland Empire League doubleheader.

Timberlake returns to action Thursday at home vs. Sandpoint.
