COEUR d’ALENE — Police arrested a man who they said smashed a glass bottle over his roommate’s head during an argument over noise.

Michael T. Conover, 27, of Coeur d’Alene, is charged with battery, a misdemeanor.

Police responded around 2 a.m. Thursday to a report of a fight with multiple injured parties at a Coeur d’Alene residence.

A man who identified himself as Conover’s roommate emerged from the home, covered in blood. He told police he and Conover had argued because Conover and his girlfriend were making too much noise while others in the home were trying to sleep.

The argument escalated, the roommate said, and Conover allegedly punched the other man several times.

After the roommate tackled Conover to the floor, he said Conover grabbed a vodka bottle and smashed it over his roommate’s head.

The man had a bleeding cut on the side of his head, police said, as well as lumps on his face. He reportedly showed signs of a concussion.

Though Conover had blood on him, police said he had no visible injuries.

Judge John Cafferty issued a warrant Thursday for Conover’s arrest on an aggravated battery charge. Conover was taken into custody the same day.

However, the state declined to file a felony charge in the case.

Judge Clark Peterson ordered Friday that Conover be held on $300 bail. He also issued a no contact order between Conover and his roommate.
