RIVER: Solution is simple

| April 9, 2021 1:00 AM

The problem on the Spokane River has gone on far too long to be reasonable let alone sensible. The problem is not that difficult and needs to stop being the commissioners’ political football.

I suggest the county pass an ordinance saying:

ALL water boarding and traveling faster than 25 mph from the U.S. 95 bridge to the Post Falls dam shall be illegal.

Wake boarding on the lake shall have a minimum distance from shore, docks and/or building and shall be 1,000 feet or more at all times. No wake boarding shall be allowed on the Coeur d’Alene River.

The penalty phase would include:

First offense shall be not less than $150.

Second offense shall be not less than $250.

Third offense shall be not less than $500 and shall include confiscation of the watercraft with the owner responsible for any storage fees. Said confiscation shall be for no less than 45 days.

The county has a very adequate marine division and this problem could be put to rest in jig time. This problem should have been put to bed long ago unless there are those who don’t want the problem solved for their own political reasons.
