COEUR d’ALENE — Spencer Zeller singled in Aidan Winters with the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning of the first game, and the Post Falls Trojans went on to sweep the host Lake City Timberwolves, 5-4 and 9-4 on Tuesday in Inland Empire League play.

Zeller finished 2 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored in the opener for Post Falls (7-3-1, 5-1 IEL). Winters and Cole Rutherford each scored a pair of runs.

Lake City (0-7, 0-7) had tied it at 4 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Zach Garza.

“Post Falls has really good senior leadership,” Lake City coach Paul Manzardo said. “Spencer Zeller played stellar in center field — he ran everything down.”

In the second game, CD Sharples took a shutout into the fifth and final inning for Post Falls, and he also went 2 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Zach Clark went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Camdyn Martindale went 2 for 3 with an RBI for Lake City, and Joe DuCoeur was 2 for 2 and scored a run.

“We pitched much better today, and we did better offensively,” Manzardo said. “We just unfortunately made some mistakes in key situations on the bases, and made some mistakes defensively.”

Manzardo had praise for his freshman pitchers in the first game, Nate Weatherhead and AJ Currie.

“Both pitched extremely well,” he said. “They did an outstanding job, and gave us a chance to win the game.”
