FULCHER: Estate tax feedback

| April 2, 2021 1:00 AM

In the last two days, I have received two survey letters from Rep. Russ Fulcher asking for feedback on the estate tax. The first gave no information as to what the tax was, the second stated, in error, that it would hurt small businesses and farmers.

Both the Congressional Budget Office and the Brooking Institute have shown in research that farmers and small businesses are protected from estate tax impact by deductions given to them. They say the estate tax will have no significant impact on family farms or small businesses.

While the estate tax could be improved, it is one of the more fair taxes over all income levels. Repealing the estate tax would only benefit the very wealthy and leave the tax income too low for the country. Rep. Fulcher, where will the money come from to make up this loss? Are you going to ask for more taxes on the working class? Why aren’t you proposing a bill to fix the estate tax instead of discarding it?

Rep. Fulcher, please represent the hardworking citizens of Idaho and not just the wealthy when you make tax decisions.
