Eastern Washington fires

women's hoops coach Schuller

Eastern Washington University announced today (March 31) that Wendy Schuller will not return as head coach of the women's basketball program.

"I want to thank Coach Schuller for her years of service and leadership of the women's basketball program," Eastern Associate Vice President/Athletic Director Lynn Hickey said. "Within our community, she has been a wonderful representative of Eastern Washington University and the athletic department. We wish all the best to Wendy and her family."

Schuller was hired as the seventh head coach in Eastern Washington women's basketball history prior to the 2001-02 season. She guided the Eagles to a 277-322 (.462) overall record over 20 seasons, including a 166-169 Big Sky Conference record. Under her tutelage, players have earned 54 All-Big Sky awards.

Earlier this week, four players entered the transfer portal, including Sandpoint High star Grace Kirscher, who just completed her junior season.

A national search for the next head coach will begin immediately.

NIC fans can attend

indoor games after all

Spectators are now allowed to attend indoor and outdoor athletics events – while continuing to follow North Idaho College’s protocols that are in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 on campus and in our community.

For indoor events in Christianson Gymnasium: Attendance is limited to 40 percent capacity. Spectators are required to wear masks/face coverings and maintain 6 feet of physical distance. Physical distancing and proper mask wearing will be maintained in all areas of the facility including entryways, exits, lobbies, bathrooms, and congregation of people is prohibited.

For outdoor events, spectators are required to maintain six feet of physical distance, and masks/face coverings are required when 6 feet of physical distancing cannot be maintained.

Hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes will be available to spectators and participants at all indoor and outdoor events.

These protocols for spectator attendance at North Idaho College athletics events are in alignment with NIC’s COVID-19 requirements, the Idaho Intercollegiate Athletics Plan for Governor’s Guidelines on Gatherings and Spectators, and Northwest Athletics Conference (NWAC) requirements.
