Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris said Wednesday a fundraising letter using his name was unauthorized.

According to a press release, Norris was made aware The Idaho Sheriff’s Association was mailing thousands of letters to constituents in Kootenai County.

"This letter was using the Sheriff’s name and position as a mechanism to seek donations for the Association," the release said. "This mailer was not approved by Sheriff Norris and the Association has since been instructed to cease mailing them."

The release goes on to state that the KCSO "has received a lot of positive attention with its prioritized focus on protecting people’s rights and keeping the peace. However, it does not give any organization (even like-minded ones) permission to fundraise in the name of Sheriff Norris."

KCSO said it has received several inquiries regarding the mailer.

"It is not approved by Sheriff Norris and he does not have a Boise address. He is a full-time resident in Kootenai County," the release stated.
