NIC ROUNDUP: Cardinals get back on the field

COEUR d'ALENE — It had been 518 days since the North Idaho College men's soccer team had played a match that counted in the Northwest Athletic Conference standings.
NIC, playing its first match since Oct. 30, 2019, fell to the Columbia Basin College Hawks 2-0 at Eisenwinter Field on Wednesday, the first day of matches in the shortened spring season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Teams in the conference are playing mostly within their own region, with no postseason tournaments to be held.
Max Warnell had five saves for NIC, which hosts Division III Whitworth on Saturday at 11 a.m.

COEUR d'ALENE — Janae Rayborn, a freshman from Lake City High, had nine kills and nine digs for the Cardinals in a 25-16, 25-22 win over the Vikings in the season and Northwest Athletic Conference opener for both at Christianson Gymnasium.
Illamarie Tua had 20 assists and five digs for NIC, which hosts Columbia Basin on Tuesday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Taryn Vanderwiel had four hits and six runs batted in for the Cardinals in a win over the Sasquatch in a Northwest Athletic Conference game at Memorial Field on Tuesday.
Madelyn Hull had three hits and five RBIs for NIC, which fell behind 9-3 after the first inning before rallying in the final innings with 17 combined runs in the fifth and sixth inning.
NIC host Division II Humboldt State today at Memorial Field starting at 2 p.m.
