COEUR d’ALENE — Coeur d’Alene took its chances when they presented themselves on Tuesday.

Fortunately the one Abbie Lyman converted happened to be just enough.

Lyman scored on an assist from Tierra Lambert in the 55th minute for the Vikings in a 1-0 nonleague win over the Sandpoint Bulldogs at Coeur d’Alene High.

“We were able to break their backline defense,” Coeur d’Alene coach Andy Vredenburg said. “Tierra played it across to Abbie and she made a nice finish on the left side.”

Coeur d’Alene outshot Sandpoint 14-4.

“We had to grind it out a little,” Vredenburg said. “We created some good opportunities, but need to work on finishing our chances. We played really well and controlled the game, especially coming off a week off. Sandpoint is a good team. They’re aggressive, they’re fast and whenever you play them, you’re in for a tough match.”

Coeur d’Alene (7-0-2) travels to Moscow on Thursday.

SANDPOINT — Cooper Proctor had nine saves for the Vikings in a shutout win over the Bulldogs in a nonleague match at War Memorial Field.

“I think we did fine,” Coeur d’Alene coach Braden Ridgewell said. “It wasn’t exactly what we were wanting, but I think there’s a lot of things that we’ve been working on in practice and leading up to this game that were able to produce on the field. It wasn’t us trying to score the most amount of goals, but possession, trying to figure out our style of play with six players down was kind of difficult. We had a lot of guys that had to step up and I think they did the job.”

Alex Reyes and Chris Swider scored goals for Coeur d’Alene (5-1-2), which hosts Moscow on Thursday.

Sandpoint (3-1-4) hosts Lakeland on Friday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Tyler Allred had five saves and Noah Janzen recorded a hat trick for the Timberwolves in a 5A Inland Empire League win over the Bengals at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex.

“I was very pleased with the overall team performance,” Lake City coach Alan Rich said. “We were very solid defensively, well disciplined in the midfield and always dangerous when we attacked. I was not happy with the number of shots on target in our game last Thursday (against Post Falls), so tonight’s quality shots was a result of several days of various shooting drills during recent training sessions. The team rose to the occasion to take home a great win for the seniors.”
