COEUR d’ALENE — Slow starts had plagued the Lake City High volleyball team this season.

Not on Tuesday night, however.

Lake City jumped ahead early and romped to a 25-12, 25-18, 25-15 sweep of the visiting Lewiston Bengals in 5A Inland Empire League play.

“We changed our pregame routine, we were a little more intentional with our warmup, and it primed our system,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “We had yet to be the first to five points in the starting set, and that was our goal tonight.”

Goal accomplished.

Tanai Jenkins, a senior middle blocker, had six kills and five blocks for Lake City (4-2, 2-2 5A IEL).

“We’ve been spending a lot of time working on getting our middles involved in our attack off serve-receive,” Kleinberg said. “She (Jenkins) sees the court really well. She picked up where Lewiston was going on offense; she was one step ahead of them.”

Nellie Reese had 15 assists, three aces and two kills for the Timberwolves. Jaya Miller added 12 digs, Hanah Stoddard six kills and eight assists, Brenna Hawkins five kills and two blocks, Hannah Rowan four kills.

Lewiston is 4-7, 0-4.
