Jeffrey Dale McArthur, 60

| September 27, 2020 1:00 AM

Jeffrey Dale McArthur, 60, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Sept. 13, 2020, at Hospice House in Hayden, Idaho, after a nine-year battle with a rare lung disease. He was born Feb. 13, 1960, to Herschel and Dianne McArthur, in Spokane, Wash.

Jeff grew up in the area and enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping. He would fondly reminisce about childhood trips to Deer Creek.

Entering the workforce at the age of 16, he worked at car dealerships, auto body, repair shops and auto parts stores in the Inland Northwest. He operated his own detailing business in Post Falls in the early 2000s. Other jobs included Specialty Insulation and Nu-Devices.

Jeff married his first wife, Laurie Rawson, in 1981. In the years following they had two wonderful sons: Andrew Ryan Slaney and Jason Daniel Slaney. He dearly loved his boys with all of his heart and soul. Jeff married his current wife, Alison Larkin, in 1993. He loved her so much he married her twice! They remained happily married until his death.

Jeff had a huge heart and always wanted to care for others. He cared for his grandmother, Sara Neva McArthur, and his father and step-mother, Shirley, when they became ill. Being diagnosed with a prognosis of about six years, Jeff fought hard to live a full, happy life and broke all the goals the doctors gave him, filling nine years with grandchildren, classic cars and his favorite hobbies. He did everything at 150% with a huge heart and smile.

Jeff's passion was certainly cars! He bought and sold so many that the car license bureaus teased that he needed a dealer’s license. He raced cars, restored cars and just thoroughly enjoyed them.

A few years ago he purchased a wonderful collector car, a 1964 Ford Falcon Station Wagon. He did his best to "drive the wheels off it" attending many car shows and cruises. He loved running around with all of his friends from North Idaho Classics, North Idaho Rat Rods and Kustoms, as well as other car clubs in the community. He appreciated all their help when he went to a show or cruise, he was honored that they all looked out for him.

Jeff had many lifelong friends but the biggest joy of Jeff's life was his children and especially his granddaughters!! They were the light of his life.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Alison of Post Falls; his two sons: Andrew of Covington, Wash., and son, Jason, daughter-in-law, Bria, and their two beautiful daughters: McKenzie and Kinley of Bonney Lake, Wash. He is also survived by his three brothers: Don, Todd and Chris McArthur; his mother and stepfather, Howard King; mother-in-law; Deanna and many other family members. He maintained a friendly relationship with his first wife, Laurie Slaney of Covington, and held a very special spot in his heart for his favorite aunt and uncle, Glenda and Dale Johnson of Post Falls. He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Shirley; his favorite grandmother, Sarah; his father-in-law, Clay Larkin and nephew, Evan Larkin.

A celebration of life will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020, at Tullamores South, located at 3673 E. Bogie Drive, Post Falls, Idaho. Food and drink will be provided. Classic Car and Rat Rods encouraged to come for a mini car show. Any questions email mcarthur.88@hotmail.com.
