GROWTH: Vote no to infrastructure fees

| September 27, 2020 1:00 AM

Having lived in a few different states, I have seen the impact of growth, both positively and negatively. The biggest negative impact is to the infrastructure upgrades that CURRENT residents are asked to pay for. WRONG!

Let the developers who will profit from these build-outs pay for them. They can simply amortize those costs across the sale of all the properties they are building.

Both the proposed $50 vehicle registration fee and the Post Falls/Coeur d’Alene development will pit two cities against each other, both vying for the almighty tax dollar. They should band together and force the developers to pay for ALL the necessary street construction, sewer upgrades, etc.

Further, this should be the mantra for ALL cities. Current residents should not be the ones shouldering the burden of growth. That is called MANAGED growth. Until that occurs, I urge a strong NO vote to all proposed infrastructure fees.
