COEUR d'ALENE — Coeur d'Alene School District officials announced Friday night that two individuals at Coeur d'Alene High School have been diagnosed with COVID-19.

School district spokesman Scott Maben emailed a press release to all Coeur d'Alene High parents and guardians announcing the news.

The release, written by the district's COVID Response Team, did not indicate if the individuals were students, faculty or staff due to privacy issues.

"We are working directly with Panhandle Health District, which provides direction on how to respond to each incident," the release stated. "We are in the process of identifying anyone believed to have been in close contact with the individuals who have tested positive and notifying them of the need to quarantine as a result of the close contact. The building has been appropriately cleaned and disinfected and will remain open."

Symptoms of COVID-19 include cough, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, a fever of 100.4°F or higher, sore throat, chills, loss of taste or smell, muscle or body aches, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, congestion/runny nose, unusual fatigue and headache.

Parents are asked to notify the school district if their student develops any of these symptoms, contact their child’s doctor for evaluation/testing, and keep their student home from school.

"There is nothing more important to us than the safety and health of our students, our staff, and their families," the statement concluded. "We encourage everyone to remain calm and to be empathic and respectful to those affected."
