Several political signs have recently been reported taken in Kootenai County.

The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office said a President Donald Trump flag in Hayden and a Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden sign were reported missing.

Evan Koch with the Kootenai County Democratic Party said several other Biden/Kamala Harris signs were taken, including some in Fernan.

Brent Regan of the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee said other Trump signs have been removed, too, including two he put up himself.

Ronald Fritz said he and his wife had their Biden/Harris sign taken from their property Saturday evening.

"My wife and I feel terrible that someone feels they have a right to suppress our First Amendment rights," he wrote.

As the November general election draws closer, officials expect to see more political signs displayed and remind people to place signs only on their own property. If a candidate or a supporter of a candidate wants to put a sign on property that is not their own, they should get permission.

Residents who live in subdivisions should read their regulations regarding political signs before putting them up. Some subdivisions don't allow political signs or flags to be displayed.
