Marienne Carns

Marienne went to be with the Lord on Sept. 17, 2020, in Coeur d'Alene.

She was born Feb. 28, 1924 (we believe), in Port Townsend, Wash. She was adopted (per the 1930 census records) by Martin and Florence Tobijanski at about 3 years old. Her family moved to Bellingham, Wash. to seek employment, as jobs were scarce.

After high school, she moved to Coeur d'Alene to live with her adopted brother, Fred Sievers, who worked for Greyhound Bus Lines. She married James Leslie Carns on May 17, 1946. They celebrated 55 years of marriage prior to his death in 2001.

Marienne was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987. She was a 33-year cancer survivor.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Clutinger (Dave) and Richard Carns (Terri); her grandchildren, Michael Singer, Merritt Weese (Jayson), Corie Carns and Justin Carns; and great-grandchildren, Sadie, Nolan and Griffin; along with several nieces and nephews.

She loved her home at Sunnyside (Mullan Trail Road, 7 miles outside of Coeur d'Alene) where she resided from 1952 until 2005. She then moved near her daughter in western Washington. She was thrilled when they moved back to Coeur d'Alene in 2018 to be closer to friends and relatives. She always considered Coeur d'Alene "home," no matter where she lived.

Thank you to all who made time to visit her, at The Courtyard at Coeur d'Alene, on Sherman Avenue. She enjoyed and looked forward to your visits. The family would like to thank the staff at The Courtyard and Auburn Crest Hospice for their wonderful care of Marienne.

She will be best remembered for how she loved to work beside her husband on their 5 acres, and for her pie-making using the fruits and berries they grew.

She most enjoyed playing pinochle on Saturday night with relatives, bowling, fishing for "bluebacks," and picking mushrooms and huckleberries.
