PREP ROUNDUP: Fast-starting St. Maries rolls in belated season opener

PRIEST RIVER — Starting three weeks later than most other teams in North Idaho because of COVID-19 concerns, the St. Maries Lumberjacks made up for lost time in a hurry Saturday.

The Lumberjacks scored 30 points in the first quarter and rolled to a 52-6 victory over the Priest River Spartans in their belated season opener.

Eli Gibson completed 10 of 14 passes for 110 yards and four touchdowns for St. Maries. He also ran for 72 yards and TD on nine carries.

Tristan Nelson caught six passes for 73 yards and three touchdowns for the Lumberjacks. Quinten Ramsey-Buress ran for 53 yards and a score on three carries, and caught four passes for 37 yards and a TD. Sam Martin ran for 70 yards on 12 carries.

Tristan Nelson had two interceptions, and Gibson and Ramsey-Buress had one pick each.

Kameron Salesky returned a fumble 42 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter for Priest River (0-3).

Salesky and St. Maries’ Kyle Sibert each had a sack and three tackles-for-loss.

On Friday, St. Maries plays host to Timberlake, and Priest River is scheduled to visit Orofino.

at Lake City invite

COEUR d’ALENE — The Post Falls girls had the top four finishers, keyed by champion Sammie Wood in 18 minutes, 22.9 seconds to win the Lake City Invitational at Lake City High.

Post Falls won the girls meet with 18 points, followed by Sandpoint with 49 points.

Jett Lucas of Sandpoint paced the Bulldogs to the boys title in 16:28.9.

Coeur d'Alene sweeps

COEUR d’ALENE — Kaleigh Goetz, Kaycee Skelton and Abby Whiting won two individual events each, as well as swam winning legs of relays in the 200-yard medley and freestyle for Coeur d’Alene in a dual against Lewiston and Wallace on Saturday at the Kroc Center.

Nicolas Patrick won twice for the Coeur d’Alene boys.

COEUR d’ALENE — Lakeland’s boys won six of eight events to capture a dual against Post Falls 147-114 at the Kroc Center on Saturday.

Natasha Astrauskas won in two individual events, as well as two relays as the Trojan girls edged the Hawks 122-117 in their dual.
