FUNDS: Should be used for tax relief

| September 20, 2020 1:00 AM

I am appalled at the recent action of the Kootenai County Commissioners. Why would a portion of the budget surplus be used for an armory, instead of property tax relief, that a great many of the citizens in this county, desperately need?

They intend to “worry about how the funds are being used, next year” for an armory, not for the good of the people. I strongly object to this action and will be sure to remember this when they come up for reelection.

Our taxes have skyrocketed, not due to property owner’s actions, such as property improvements, but because our city leaders allow uncontrolled expansion, replacing older homes with expensive row houses. This impacts us all, with exploding traffic, etc.

It would be my wish and prayer that this expansion be mitigated with the actions of the mayor, city council, planning folks, who are certainly impacted with these actions, as well as the 99% of us trying to make do on retirement incomes. Of course, it doesn’t seem to be in vogue to care about others in kindnesses such as these things.

I weep for the younger families that won’t know how wonderful it was to live in Coeur d’Alene before the invasion of out-of-staters with their more substantial incomes.
