Constitution Week Spotlight

The U.S. Constitution was designed to be a living document that could be amended by future generations.

Hundreds of amendments are introduced in Congress every year. But in its 233-year history, only 33 amendments have been sent to the states for ratification. Of those, 27 have been ratified. Only once has an amendment been amended by a subsequent amendment. The 18th Amendment established Prohibition; the 21st Amendment repealed that. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment that gave women the right to vote.

Did you know? The last amendment to the Constitution was in 1992.

This Constitution Week Spotlight was provided by Lt. George Farragut Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
