SUNDAE: Look at it this way

During an interview I was asked, “If you could be any part of an ice cream sundae, which part would you be and why?” I said that I would be the cherry on top because that is what makes people smile.

We now have two candidates who want the job of being our president. How would they answer this question? Which candidate will say, with conviction, “I have no choice but to say that I will be the bowl.” Why the bowl? “The bowl is what holds everything together. It protects all that is within it. Without the strength of the bowl, there would be no sundae. We would be left with a mess that would have to be cleaned up.”

Which candidate will value the fact that, like a bowl, we come from different countries, we are of many colors, sizes and strengths. Some of us are strong while others are fragile. Do we have chips and scratches? Yes, for we are not perfect.

To our future president, know that you will be holding 330 million people in your bowl. Take a good look inside and know that we need leadership, a new direction, a new sense of hope, a belief that we will be heard and a knowledge that we will be protected from enemies seen and unseen (COVID).

Finally, I ask that if you happen to see extra room in your bowl, toss in a few cherries because right now we could all use a smile.
