Lake City intercepted in the end

| September 12, 2020 1:15 AM

SANDPOINT — Down to a final play with no timeouts left, the Lake City Timberwolves went for it.

The pass just fell short.

Trailing 20-15 with 20 seconds remaining, Lake City quarterback Chris Irvin was intercepted in the endzone, giving the Sandpoint Bulldogs a 20-15 win at Barlow Stadium.

“We tried to make a play in the endzone and it wasn’t a good decision,” Lake City coach Brian Fulp said. “We’ve got to take of the football a lot better, plain and simple.”

Lake City (1-2) limited Sandpoint to 84 yards passing on the night.

“I thought it was our best defensive performance of the year,” Fulp said. “We stepped up when we needed it. Our defense gave us chances, but offensively, we didn’t capitalize on it.”

Matthew Whitcomb had 13 catches for 181 yards and a touchdown for Lake City, which travels to Post Falls in a nonleague game next Friday.
