POST FALLS — It took five sets to settle an early season battle of unbeatens in the Inland Empire League.

Kylie Munday had 13 kills, 15 assists, three blocks and three aces, and Brielle Nagel added 13 kills and 13 digs as the Post Falls Trojans outlasted the Lake City Timberwolves 25-18, 25-17, 22-25, 23-25, 15-10 at The Arena.

“It was a great battle,” Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. “Man, they (the Timberwolves just had a lot of momentum in the third and fourth game. They were super scrappy; they picked up a lot of balls. I think we were a little too hyped in the third and fourth game, just a little over-excited. In the fifth game we settled in, focused on one point at a time, one touch at a time.”

Maya Blake added 11 kills for Post Falls (7-0, 4-0 IEL). Brooke Minden had 13 assists, Kassie Gardiner 12 assists and three aces, Claire Holding 19 digs, Rylee Hartwig two blocks.

Nellie Reese had 27 assists and 13 digs for Lake City (2-1, 2-1). Hanah Stoddard had 17 kills and eight digs, Tanai Jenkins six kills and three blocks, Hannah Rowan five kills, Brenna Hawkins four kills and three aces, Jaya Miller 15 digs and three aces.

“We came out flat, and couldn’t quite get out of our funk,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “Post Falls played very tough defense; they definitely made us work for our points. Munday had a great game; she was smart moving the ball around. They were good at keeping us out of system. But I’m proud of my girls, they fought with a lot of heart. It was a little too late.”

Lake City plays host to Moscow on Tuesday.

Post Falls returns to action next Thursday at Lewiston.

Addie Kiefer hit the ball hard and to the floor tonight. She was able to get some blocks after some long rallies as well. Katy had an all-around great night with her passing and hitting. PRIEST RIVER — Sarah Hines scored two goals and Rebekah Hines had a goal and two assists for the Panthers in an Intermountain League win over the Spartans at Priest River High.

“It was a great opportunity for us to try a few different combinations up top,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “We were able to finish a few and then struggled due to some solid defense by Priest River. In the second half, we came out more creative and moved the ball better, resulting in a string of goals within 12 minutes. This enabled us to get excellent minutes from some of our younger players to help them develop as well.”
