LETTER: Didn’t deserve top billing

| September 11, 2020 12:30 AM

My letter is in response to the apparent newsworthy headlining article written on Sept. 3 by Phyllis and John Hysong about their disappointment with Coeur d’Alene.

First, I can’t help but ask myself what was so earth-shattering in this “letter to the editor” that it actually earned the top spot headlining news story on the front page of the Local section of The Press? This letter was nothing more than a typical letter to the editor that apparently reinforces The Press’ point of view so it was elevated to a news story. The editor that approved this “story” and placement in the paper should immediately re-evaluate their ability to competently perform their job duties.

Second, as for the Hysongs’ opinion, honestly folks we don’t care about your opinion. Your desire to mask shame our community and call out specific local businesses because they don’t meet your standards are ridiculous. Would the Hysongs also like to inspect restaurants, review construction standards, and test water quality while they are here?

My advice to you is go back to Arizona and sit comfortably with others participating in the cancel culture that are unhappy with everyone that doesn’t conform to your self-imposed standards, opinions or beliefs. Mr. and Mrs. Hysong, if I had your address, I’d mail you the dollar that you net contributed to our community while you were here in exchange for a promise not to return.

Let me conclude by saying, I’m not anti-mask, I’m anti-Coeur d’Alene Press using a letter to the editor as a news article to reinforce their apparent opinion, and I’m anti-tourist telling us how to live and what standards to live by. Now, let’s see if my letter will headline the Local section.
