Construction to close Garwood intersection

| September 11, 2020 12:30 AM

The intersection of Garwood Road and Pope/Hudlow Road will be closed for two weeks starting Monday.

The Idaho Transportation Department said the closure is necessary so the intersection can be raised to align with the future Garwood overpass at US-95.

A temporary access road from the closed intersection will be built along Garwood Road to allow for access to and from US-95.

ITD said this road will only be in place until the US-95/ID-53 interchange is opened in mid-October.

"Ultimately, when the Garwood overpass is constructed in the coming year, there will be no access from US-95 to or from Garwood Road," the press release said. "The temporary road was not originally planned, but due to supply problems as a result of COVID-19, the opening of the interchange at ID-53 has been delayed for a few weeks."

Crews are still planning to connect the detour route to the new alignment of ID-53 by the end of September.
