Clyde Arthur Tanner

| September 10, 2020 1:00 AM

Clyde Arthur Tanner, a long-time resident of Rathdrum, Idaho, passed away Monday, Aug. 31, 2020. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in October 2018 and bravely battled the disease for 23 months before passing in his home, where he wished to remain.

It was the very place he created a life worth of memories with his wife, Arles, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Clyde was born Aug. 12, 1942, in Spokane, Wash., to parents Grace and Francis Tanner, and was raised in Dalton Gardens, Idaho.

Clyde was a proud Boy Scout, having achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a teenager and then went on to serve in the Army National Guard. As he became a man, he found his calling in the mountains of Idaho, where he would spend many of his working years logging the timbers of the Panhandle. A true master of the trade and one of the last-great loggers of Idaho.

Though Clyde worked in the woods, he also enjoyed spending time in the woods, from hunting as a young man to camping with family, canoeing with grandchildren, 4-wheeling with friends and picking huckleberries in his and Arles’ secret spot. Clyde did spend a lot of time in the mountains, but those who really knew him will remember his great dance moves, signature “Elvis” styled hair and an affinity for dressing sharp.

Clyde is survived by his wife of 51-years, Arles Tanner; daughters, Melissa Boler and husband, Kenny, Terrina Garcia and husband, Juan, Tami Chambers and husband, Jeff, and Karry Tanner; sons, Kenny Tanner and Russel Tanner; sister, Maryann Dinning; brother, Marvin “Shorty” Tanner and wife, Cindy; sisters-in-law, Kathy Tanner and Bonnie Tanner; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Roger Tanner and Terry Tanner.

A viewing service for family members will be held from 4-6 p.m. today, Sept. 10, 2020, at Yates Funeral Home, 373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden, Idaho. Funeral services will be held in the same location at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2020. No graveside services will be held. We invite family and friends to attend the funeral to reminisce, grieve and support each other.

The family requests that no flowers be provided at the services, and instead, a donation made in Clyde’s name to either Hospice of North Idaho or Kootenai Humane Society.

Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements. Please visit Clyde’s online memorial at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com and sign his guest book.
