Tune in for telethon Thursday

The Kootenai Humane Society will be blending old school with new tech during its inaugural virtual telethon from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Presented by TDS, this informational and entertaining evening will feature appearances by furry friends and local celebrities, including Hayden Mayor Steve Griffitts, Scotty Steele of Rock 94.5 FM and Mark Peterson of KXLY working to raise funds for North Idaho's no-kill shelter.

Hear the stories of animals who have found their forever homes, meet the animals still waiting for their second chance at happiness, hear about the progress of the new animal center coming to serve the community and learn about local animal control divisions and how they can help you.

Funds from the telethon will support daily operations and help pay for surgeries for sick and injured animals, like amputations, eye removals or major medical care from abuse. Others who have been so badly neglected need nourishment. And still others just need a gentle, caring touch to let them know they are safe and away from the pain and abuse they knew so well.

The telethon will be broadcast live on YouTube and Facebook from Kootenai Humane Society. The shelter has been closed to the public except by appointment through the pandemic, so this will be a closed event with safety measures in place.

Viewers will have plenty of opportunities to donate and win prizes.

Kootenai Humane Society is also raffling a Volkswagen bus for $10 a ticket. The drawing is Oct. 1 at 1 p.m.
