CAMERON: Stop dodging LA

| September 9, 2020 1:00 AM

Now and then I hear jokes about our "small town newspaper." Personally I think you serve our community quite well but recently I've had reminders of what they're joking about. I realize the dearth of sports news was at play when the main stories on the front page of Sports were two large pictures and articles on Frisbee golf!

My neighbor thinks Steve Cameron is the worst sports reporter ever and even makes comments about his picture. So I tell him, write to the paper or stop complaining. Well, on behalf of my neighbor...

Mr. Cameron, do you write for this paper or are you a SF Chronicle wannabe? As a Dodger fan since 1953, I find your unabashed bias for the Giants to be bush league reporting at best. By the way, your "Gints" are resting comfortably more than 10 games behind the "Almighty Dodgers," your somehow derisive title you gave them recently. And since 1969, the start of divisional play, the Dodgers have won more than twice as many titles.

Oh, and recently your reminiscing about Willie McCovey brought to mind, back when he was playing, my friend, a Giants fan and I would go to Candlestick to watch our teams play. Two ladies in front of us were arguing, with one trying to convince her friend that Willie was her nephew. Well, after he swung (mightily) at a pitch from Sandy Koufax that bounced in front of the plate, she disowned him. I'm sure you're already working on an article about Sandy, quite possibly the greatest pitcher ever...
