GADSDEN FLAG: Good riddance

| September 4, 2020 1:00 AM

I’m sorry the Atwoods chose to display this flag, but no big loss. Management at Golden Spike Estates have said that no one can display any symbol/sign of any political party, yet they refuse to acknowledge that this flag is a blatant disregard of this rule.

There is another resident who loads up his truck to attend right wing rallies with this flag prominent among them. It is offensive to see this flag flying on tall flag poles in this complex. The following is a direct quote about the Tea Party movement and the meaning of the “Gadsden Flag”:

“The Tea Party movement is an American fiscally conservative political movement within the Republican Party. Members of the movement have called for lower taxes, and for a reduction of the national debt of the United States and federal budget deficit through decreased government spending. The movement supports small-government principles and opposes government-sponsored universal healthcare. The Tea Party movement has been described as a popular constitutional movement composed of a mixture of libertarian, right-wing populist, and conservative activism. It has sponsored multiple protests and supported various political candidates since 2009. According to the American Enterprise Institute, various polls in 2013 estimated that slightly over 10 percent of Americans identified as part of the movement.”

“Beginning in 2009, the Gadsden Flag has been used by the American Tea Party movement. It was also displayed by members of Congress at Tea Party movement rallies. Some lawmakers have called it a 'political symbol' because of this association.”
