PREP SOCCER: Koller lifts Post Falls past Lake City boys

COEUR d’ALENE — Logan Koller scored on an assist from Andrew Ferreira in the 69th minute for Post Falls, which scored twice in the second half to hold off the Lake City Timberwolves 2-1 in an Inland Empire League match at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex on Tuesday.

Lake City opened the scoring on a goal by Noah Janzen on an assist from Bryce Allred in the fourth minute.

“We started strong with an early goal on a well-executed and unselfish 2v1 against the Post Falls goalkeeper,” Lake City coach Alan Rich said. “Post Falls is always a good match. They never quit and they were better prepared than us and wanted the win more than we did.”

Lance Gilmor tied the match in the 64th minute for Post Falls (2-2, 2-2 IEL), which faces Coeur d’Alene Charter on Thursday at The Fields at Real Life Ministries in Post Falls.

Lake City (3-1, 2-1) travels to Lakeland on Thursday.

PRIEST RIVER — Gavin Mooney scored two first half goals for the Tigers in a nonleague win over the Spartans at Priest River High.

The match was played 8-on-8 instead of the traditional 11-on-11 due to the Spartans having only eight players on their roster for the match.

Nate Anderson scored two goals in the second half for Timberlake (2-1), which plays at Lakeland on Saturday.

Priest River (0-1) travels to Immaculate Conception of Post Falls on Friday.

POST FALLS — The visiting Timberwolves scored three goals in a four-minute span, two of those by Kali McKellips, to ease away from the Trojans in Inland Empire League play.

Post Falls (1-3, 1-3 IEL) held Lake City (3-1, 3-0) to two goals until the 65th minute.

“Ashley Grant was rock solid in goal tonight,” Post Falls coach Steve Mills said of his goalkeeper. “Our opening schedule of five games in 10 days is definitely taking a toll. Proud of the effort that those girls are putting out there.”

Lake City plays host to Lakeland on Thursday in a nonleague game.

Post Falls concludes that 5-in-10 stretch Thursday vs. Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy.
