Montana man back in jail

COEUR d’ALENE — A Montana man is back in jail after a second arrest for failing to appear in court.

Daniel F. Haslage, 26, of Kalispell, Mont., is charged with possession of a controlled substance, a felony.

The charge stems from June 1, when police responded to a report of a man who was seen “lurking” around a residence and going through belongings in a carport.

The man, identified as Haslage, allegedly told police he was not going through the carport but was instead attempting to connect to the residence’s WiFi.

Haslage also allegedly said a “drug task force” in Montana had sent him to purchase drugs in Spokane and bring them back to Montana, court documents said. He reportedly gave police permission to search his backpack, which he said contained drugs.

Police reportedly found five used syringes, a glass pipe with residue in the bowl that was determined to be meth and a loaded handgun in the backpack, according to court documents.

Haslage was arrested at the scene.

He was released June 2 after posting $15,000 bail but reportedly failed to appear in court in July. A judge issued a bench warrant for Haslage’s arrest.

He was taken into custody Sept. 1 and again posted $15,000 bail, according to court documents. He failed to appear in court again on Oct. 1 and another bench warrant was issued.

Police arrested Haslage again Oct. 23.

A judge ordered that he be held on $30,000 bail.
