PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Post Falls pulls away from Lakeland

RATHDRUM — Sophomore Capri Sims scored six of her 15 points in the fourth quarter as the Post Falls Trojans pulled away from the Lakeland Hawks 70-53 in an Inland Empire League girls basketball game Thursday night at Hawk Court.

Sophomore Brielle Magnuson hit a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter for Post Falls (2-0, 2-0 IEL), which outscored Lakeland 22-7 in the fourth quarter after leading by two points after three.

“We got a little tired in the second half, and and they did a pretty good job of executing down the stretch, hit some big shots, and got to the hoop,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said.

Dylan Lovett added 15 points for Post Falls, which returns to action Dec. 1 at Coeur d’Alene.

Katy Ryan had 16 points and 12 blocked shots for Lakeland, in its season opener. Abbie Neff added 11 points, Kenna Simon eight points and five rebounds, Addie Kiefer seven points, five rebounds and four assists.

Lakeland travels to Timberlake on Tuesday.

SPIRIT LAKE — Brooke Jessen scored eight of her game-high 20 points in the third quarter to send the Tigers past the Bulldogs in a nonleague game.

Taryn Soumas scored 11 points for Timberlake (1-1), which held Sandpoint (0-2) to nine first half points.

“I was really happy with our half-court defense,” Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. “We did a good job of helping and defended the ball really well, especially in the half court.”

Karlie Banks scored 10 points for Sandpoint, which hosts Timberlake on Dec. 3.

Timberlake hosts Lakeland on Tuesday.

• Lake City's girls basketball season opener tonight at home vs. Moscow was postponed due to COVID-19 issues.

• St. Maries' girls basketball game at Bonners Ferry tonight has been postponed, due to Panhandle Health dropping Benewah County into the Red category, and with the St. Maries School Board policy concerning COVID.

All St. Maries practices are postponed until further notice, athletic director Todd Gilkey said.

• Timberlake at St. Maries boys basketball, and St. Maries at Timberlake girls basketball, have been moved from Jan. 19 to Jan. 18.

• Timberlake girls' game with Lewiston that was postponed last Friday was rescheduled for Jan. 30.
