CHANGE: Starts with small steps
I read with interest Guest Opinion writer Chuck Malloy’s discussion of Congressman Mike Simpson’s hope and desire for more cooperation and less rancor in D.C. politics. I think the whole country would love to see that.
I share Mr. Malloy’s concern that this is very unlikely to occur until Sen. Majority leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker Nancy Pelosi are actually in an old persons’ home playing dominoes rather than leading their respective congressional delegations.
However, all positive change has to begin with small steps in the right direction and someone with the courage to take that step. I find it both discouraging and disingenuous that Congressman Simpson can’t support his own dream for less rancor by taking even the smallest step in that direction i.e. congratulate President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris on their win and wish them well. I’m even OK if putting “apparent” before president-elect if that makes him feel better. But I dream (sigh)!
