STATE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS: Mullan-St. Regis blanked by Dietrich in 1A Division II semis
DIETRICH — Mullan-St. Regis' playoff run ended Saturday on a chilly afternoon in south-central Idaho, but the Tigers co-op was rewarded with a playoff trophy in football for the first time in more than a decade at either school.
The Dietrich Blue Devils outgained Mullan-St. Regis 565-119 in a 64-0 win in the semifinals of the state 1A Division II playoffs on Saturday afternoon.
It is the first trophy for the co-op between Mullan and St. Regis, Mont. — which started in 2018 — in the team's second straight trip to the state playoffs. The Tigers lost in the quarterfinals last year.
The third-place trophy is Mullan's first in football since reaching the semifinals in 2006. Mullan coach Stetson Spooner said it's St. Regis’ first trophy at state since 1989.
Mullan-St. Regis (8-2) turned the ball over five times, three on interceptions and went 1 for 11 on third-down conversions. Dietrich was 3 for 7 on third down.
Dietrich quarterback Brady Power had 129 yards rushing and 167 passing, accounting for five touchdowns. He also had two interceptions and a fumble recovery.
Mullan-St. Regis loses just two seniors from this year’s squad.
Dietrich (10-0) will face the winner of Monday’s semifinal between Kendrick and Carey in the championship game. That semifinal was postponed from Saturday due to snow, and rescheduled for Monday at 7 p.m. at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow.
