Timberlake girls basketball opener postponed

| November 14, 2020 1:03 AM

Timberlake's scheduled season-opening girls basketball game today vs. visiting Lewiston has been postponed due to COVID-related concerns, Timberlake athletic director Tim Cronnelly said.

Timberlake was going to be shorthanded due to quarantining and positive COVID-19 tests on its team, but still intended to play the game. On Friday, Gov. Brad Little pushed the state back to the more restrictive Stage 2 in his Idaho Rebounds plan, due to rising COVID cases.

The number of spectators at events was already limited, and was likely going to be limited further by the drop to Stage 2.

"We were ready to play," Cronnelly said. "Moving to Stage 2 left too many questions. We hope to get parameters from the (Idaho High School Activities Association) early next week."
