95/53 interchange expected to open soon

| November 14, 2020 1:00 AM

The new single-point urban interchange at U.S. 95 and Highway 53 is expected to open by the end of November.

“The project is part of a larger vision to improve traffic flow and safety along U.S 95 between Garwood and Sagle,” according to the Idaho Transportation Department.

This style of interchange, with only one traffic signal, is new to our area, ITD said.

Drivers are encouraged to watch a video on how to use the interchange "and to be alert and patient with others as everyone learns."

Key project elements include constructing foundation structures for both the Highway 53 interchange and the new railroad bridge; widening Highway 53 between U.S. 95 and Ramsey Road; completing significant earthwork for the new Highway 53 alignment; and adding a temporary signal at 53 and Ramsey Road.

The Garwood Road Overpass will be constructed starting this spring.

The intersection of Garwood and U.S. 95 will remain open until bridge work begins.

In the next three years, ITD will reconfigure several roadways near the 95 junctions and Garwood Road north of Hayden.
