City Center of attention
The city of Post Falls is asking for public input on the chance to revamp the City Center Master Plan based on the community's needs and wants.
In the 15 years since Post Falls' last master plan in 2005, the city has seen substantial growth and changes in the economy, demographics, leadership and subsequent interests.
To better understand goals moving forward, the city released a short explanatory video and survey open for public comment.
"There is a different demographic. Boomers that were once in the workforce are now retired and seeking different housing options," the video states. "Millennials are transitioning to low maintenance ownership options from the apartment living they once may have had. Gen Z's have begun entering the workforce of which demand active tech-oriented centers within communities."
The 2005 City Center Master Plan focused on establishing a strong Post Falls identity that celebrates its history, now symbolized through the water tower, Treaty Rock historical site, and increased pedestrian access to the city core.
"Many of the goals and actions established in 2005 are still pertinent today in the transitioning economies. It just needs a little bit of refinement," the video said. "The planning you see here is to establish a vision, create some goals, and establish some actions."
With the new city center plan, administrative planners are canvassing public interest on projects like widening sidewalks, mixed-use development areas, and constructing gathering places.
