UGM upscale thrift store to open in Hayden

| November 8, 2020 1:20 AM

The Union Gospel Mission plans to open a new upscale thrift store at 7761 N. Government Way. Construction began on the 12,124-square-foot building in October, and it should open for business in early summer.

The purpose of the Thrift Store is two-fold, said UGM Executive Director Phil Altmeyer: to generate revenue to support the work of the UGM Center for Women and Children in Coeur d'Alene and to provide job training and employment.

"If you're going to end homelessness, you have to help people get back to work," Altmeyer said.

The store will employ women coming out of UGM's long-term recovery program and those with other previous barriers to employment. The community can donate quality used clothing and household goods.

Jaclyn Ferrell, who has managed UGM stores in Spokane, will manage the new store and begin hiring staff in the spring. Check www.uniongospelmission.org.
