PHD: 210 cases new single-day record

The Panhandle Health District reported a single-day record of 210 new coronavirus cases on Friday.

There are now 81 deaths in the PHD attributed to the virus and a total of 6,360 cases,

Kootenai Health reported it has 45 coronavirus patients, with 12 in critical care.

Kootenai County had 168 new cases — nearly 600 in the past week — and 53 deaths attributed to COVID-19, according to PHD and now has 5,007 total cases.

The positivity rate of PCR tests for the virus also continues to climb.

In the PHD, based on 4,576 PCR tests for the week ending Oct. 31, the positivity rate was 13.6 percent, the highest yet, and triple the 4.3 percent for the week ending Aug. 29.

Statewide, the most recent positivity rate rose to 14.7 percent.

Health officials continue to urge people to wear masks, maintain social distance of at least 6 feet, and wash hands frequently.
