Fire cleanup continues

COEUR d’ALENE — Efforts to clean up the site of a fire that destroyed several downtown businesses earlier this year are continuing.

The Jan. 20 early morning fire on the 200 block of north Fourth Street destroyed the homes of six businesses, including Schmidty’s Burgers, Heart of the City Tattoo, Michael Score Farmers Insurance Agency, 7/20 Haberdashery, Cole Taylor Salon and Emerge.

Investigators later determined the fire started in the attic and it was not intentional.

Monday, the inside of the building was clearly visible. It was being gutted and cleared away. For now, the walls are still standing.

The property remains fenced, with signs warning people to stay out.
