FEAR: What Bible says

| March 20, 2020 1:00 AM

In 1933, Franklin Roosevelt said “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”

The Bible encourages God-fearers 331 times, “Fear not.” In Isaiah 41:10 God said, “Fear not; for I am with you; be not dismayed; for I am your God: I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you.”

Those of us who believe that God has a personal interest in us, specifically through Jesus Christ, need not fear.

Many in the media, politics, and other powerful places are promoting fear with this pandemic. Flu seasons often reach epidemic proportion, typically killing tens of thousands of Americans annually. Since 1918 we have had four global pandemics. This one should not be feared.

Enormously disruptive actions have been undertaken to slow the progress of this virus. Travel, entertainment, education, and even churches have been impacted. The instructions by the government to curtail large-group gatherings feeds fears already established by the media.

Those most susceptible are the aged and those with certain underlying health issues. Let’s focus on protecting them and promote healthy habits in the rest. Don’t panic. Let the disease run its course, rely on God’s providence, and fear not.
