LITTLE: A calming leader during crisis
Governor Little’s press conference on COVID-19 calmly went right to the point. He recognized that many in Idaho will eventually get some form of the disease. Most will get over it by themselves, but a percentage will require hospitalization. The worst case would be if too many people got it too fast, overloading our medical resources, straining more families and spiraling into more infections.
His plan for the State is to work hard to slow the disease’s advance, mainly by being thoughtful neighbors. Slowing it will spread out the need over time so existing resources have a better chance to meet people’s needs.
Of course there are other things that could be done in a perfect world. But for the resources he has he has spelled out a realistic and critical goal. He stated with some transparency how his emergency declaration will allow better access and flexibility for certain resources. Most of all he did it without the drama and hype we often hear. His easy, intelligent manner, as much as any words, personally give me great confidence.
