Other schools to follow?

All Coeur d’Alene High and Lake City High sporting events for the next three weeks have been postponed or canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Coeur d’Alene School District announced Saturday that its schools would be closed effective Monday until April 6.

The closure included the temporary shutdown of all extra-curricular activities, including athletics.

Some teams have already begun their seasons. Many teams have games scheduled over the next two weeks. Some had games scheduled the third week, which is spring break.

The Lakeland School District, which includes Lakeland and Timberlake high schools, announced Saturday that all scheduled games Monday and Tuesday were postponed/canceled, as schools are slated to be closed those two days.

As of late Saturday night, games were still on for other area high schools, though officials from some of those schools were meeting to consider their options.

On Friday, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee ordered the close of his state’s schools through April 24, which means none of Washington’s teams can play before then. That affected North Idaho teams, who often play Washington schools in early season games.

Earlier Saturday, the Moscow School District announced its schools were closed until April 6.
