GENERALIZATIONS: Try these on

In response to Bob Ridout’s letter published March 8. He has somehow determined that only Republicans believe in defending themselves from violent criminals. I couldn’t let his over-the-top generalization go unchallenged.

Following the same vein of ridiculous generalizations — if you care about saving the environment, preserving our parks and protecting our endangered wildlife, you are a Democrat. If you don’t care, you’re a Republican.

If you respect minorities, women and the disabled, you are a Democrat. If not, you’re a Republican.

If rudeness, name calling, bullying and downright nastiness disgusts you, you are a Democrat. If you’re OK with that behavior, you’re a Republican.

Broad generalizations rarely have enough truth in them to be worthwhile as Mr. Ridout’s letter demonstrates.
