GOP: Plenty to criticize

| March 11, 2020 1:00 AM

The headline story about the differences between the Republicans and Democrats and on the front page of Sunday’s Press was very slanted, pointing out a “fact” that Republicans need only to point out that free markets are essential to the prosperity of everyone, making every other problem easier to solve.

“In reality, America is greater than anytime in the past,” said Brent Regan, KC Republican. He said that Democrats will have to argue that “America is a terrible place with a government corrupted by money…”

In fact, Democrats will have huge issues to argue, including that the ruling Republicans, who used to stand for fiscal responsibility, have given huge tax cuts to the very rich while increasing government expenses that now threaten the very future of the country with trillion-dollar debts.

They have ignored the scientific warnings of global catastrophe unless we take aggressive steps to limit carbon pollution, bringing us much closer to a runaway situation that feeds on itself and cannot be stopped.

They have continued to spread lies about democratic candidates, and increased voter suppression especially in black and colored neighborhoods, eliminating polling places and requiring long waits of six hours or more just to vote.

They continue to cut funds for a common education for all, as mandated in our constitution. And they do not think poor people deserve health care if they can’t pay for it, ignoring the fact that most bankruptcies are caused by costs of health care.
