STATE 2A BOYS SEMIFINALS: St. Maries falls short to West Side
BOISE — St. Maries’ bid for a return trip to the Ford Idaho Center for the state 2A title game took a detour on Friday after the Lumberjacks fell to the West Side Pirates 62-41 at Capital High.
St. Maries (18-6) will face Cole Valley Christian (14-10) in the third-place game today at 10 a.m. PST.
The Lumberjacks finished the night 13 of 45 from the field, while West Side shot 21 of 35.
“We didn’t shoot the ball very well,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said. “We just weren’t doing the things that we’d talked about beforehand, and seemed like we were forcing things too much.”
West Side outscored St. Maries 22-11 in the third quarter to take a 48-27 lead.
Brett Stancil scored nine points for St. Maries. Bryler Schurtliff scored 17 points for West Side.
“We just never got into a rythmn tonight,” Chase said. “We had some chances to get back into it, but would fumble a steal. Once we got the momentum, nothing would drop offensively.”
St. Maries finished runner-up in 2019 to North Fremont, which beat Cole Valley 69-64 in overtime in the other semifinal.
