Man drowns near Corbin Park
POST FALLS — A Spokane Valley man drowned Friday night in the Spokane River.
Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputies, along with Kootenai County Fire and Rescue, were dispatched to Corbin Park for a possible drowning around 6 p.m., according to a press release.
They were told a 35-year-old man had jumped into the water from shore when the kayak his wife and child were in capsized, the release said.
“The wife and child were safely rescued, but due to an error in communication, it was believed the male had also made it safely to shore,” the release said. “However, after several minutes of searching by family and friends, he was not located and believed to still be in the water.”
Just before 7 p.m., KCSO divers found the man and brought him to shore. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man was not wearing a life jacket, the release said.
The investigation continues.
