The Post Falls Police Department said a security hack into their department system was caught early enough that it didn’t cause any disruptions to services or responses.

“They just browsed around,” Post Falls Police Chief Pat Knight said.

The department experienced the breach May 23, which caused disruption to certain internal systems including digital media and internal communications.

“It was basically an email,” Knight said. “At no point was the ability of the Police Department to provide police protection to the community compromised.”

The 911 system was fully functional throughout the attempted breach, along with dispatch and patrol systems, Knight said.

Knight said multiple agencies are investigating the attempted hack.

Police are working with assistance from computer forensic specialists to bring the internal systems back online.

Knight said no personal or criminal information, police investigations, or secure data was accessed.

“No sensitive data appears to be compromised,” he said.
